Tegnest vs Wix: which fits a local business?

I built Tegnest for one kind of customer: a local business that wants a good website without building it. Wix is a toolbox for building any website yourself. Both can be the right choice. Here is what each costs over three years and what you get for it, from each company’s own pages.

Prices read on 16 October 2026 from each company’s own pricing page. They may have changed since; the sources at the bottom say exactly what each page said.

Three years, added up

ChoiceTotal, 3 years
Website, 1 pageTegnest€128.00excl. VAT
Wix LightBuild it yourself€504.00excl. taxes, as shown

Excl. VAT on both sides: Wix adds the VAT of your country at checkout, so that is the only fair way to put them side by side. This compares prices, not everything you get: Wix gives you far more freedom; with me you don’t build or write it yourself.

  • AI writes the copy from what you fill in; you read it before you pay.
  • Hosting, https and a domain name in your name, every year. Mail to your domain is forwarded to your own inbox.
  • You change your details, photos and colours yourself at no extra cost; 10 AI changes a month and 3 changes by me a year are included.

What you do yourself

  • Fill in your details and read the copy.

Good to know

  • No mailbox to send from: mail is forwarded only.
  • No webshop and no custom design.
  • More pages or a quote form cost more.

What you get

  • A drag-and-drop editor with thousands of templates to change as you like, hosting and a domain name.
  • An app market for extras.

What you do yourself

  • Build the website, write the copy and choose the photos yourself.

Good to know

  • Wix’s English plans page showed $17 a month from my (Dutch) connection; this is Wix’s euro price as its German, French and Dutch pages show it.
  • From year 2 you also pay for your domain name. Wix doesn’t publish that price on its plans page, so it isn’t in the total.
  • Taxes are added at checkout at your country’s rate.

Pick Wix if…

  • you want to design every part of your website yourself. Wix’s editor and its 2,000+ templates give you far more freedom than my fixed designs.
  • you need an online shop or online payments: Wix has them built in, from the Core plan.
  • you want room to grow: apps from the Wix App Market, more storage and up to 100 collaborators on the bigger plans.
  • you want help at any hour. Wix lists 24/7 customer care; I’m one person and answer by email.
  • you want a mailbox on your own domain to send from.
  • you want a company that has done this for years (its pages say © 2006–2026), with experts for hire around it.

Pick Tegnest if…

  • you’d rather not build or write: you fill in your details, and your site is written and laid out for your trade.
  • what your customers need is your prices, opening hours and phone number on one clear page.
  • you want to see the finished website before you pay anything.
  • you want the domain name included every year, not only the first: three years cost €128 excl. VAT with me, against €504 for Wix Light before its domain renewal.
  • you want a person to look at your site: I check every new one within one working day after it goes live.
